"Makes me a better mom"
I was on my way home from work one night and had to stop at the store to pick up some things. As I was waiting in line to check out, a lady behind me started up conversation. Young and had 3 children. Very well kept and polite. We got to talking about our kids and the holidays and such and of course she asks where my kids go to school. I tell her about the older 2 and where they go and about home schooling the other 2. She proceeded to tell me that she had to send her kids to school so she could have girl time and that it helped her be a better mom. I found that interesting. I do not think home schooling is for everyone, but to insinuate that being away from your kids makes you a better mom just kind of makes me cringe. Sure, I understand the premise because I am a mom and have 4 kids, I just don't agree with that. I think it just goes to show how selfish we are as a society. That statement has just hung with me and I wanted to put it up here.

I made coffee cake for breakfast - it didn't come out of the pan very well but it tastes pretty good.

School and my kids call.

Well, I guess I should blog
We had Meaghans Riding Academy Christmas party here at our house this past Sunday. It was good to have people in the house, but I have to say it wasn't intimate like I prefer things here. Of course you can't expect much when most of them are strangers. I find it interesting different peoples perspectives on going to someone's house for a party. Several people brought simple little gifts for the hostess, among which one was a funny little horse ornament with a cardinal sitting on its hind quarters. Another gift was paper Christmas napkins (?) and another some yummy pumpkin bread. And several people intentionally sought me out to say "thank you" for opening my house. Just interesting.

Of course none of your house is private when you have that many people in it. Kids were everywhere. There is one group of girls all about the same age as Meaghan that hung out in a pack here in Alan's study listening to the hip music. Then there was the younger crowd who in general just ran around mostly behaving themselves. I had a good time but had hoped the more core group would stay longer than they did. Ms. Reed, the instructor, and her daughters and granddaughter were the last to leave. We sat and talked in general for a bit, I liked that part best.

We have our yearly Christmas party coming up this Friday. Alan and I went out and invited several of our neighbors, once again, interesting the different responses we got. Several invited us in, most looked at us like we were aliens. One house there had been a guy outside and didn't answer the door when we got to his house. I guess he thought we were "out witnessing" and didn't want to deal with that, which I totally understand. I hate opening my door to strangers, out of fear and inconvenience. So, anyway, if any of you are close by to Lexington and want to come hang out with us this Friday, you are invited. 7p.m. and bring a bottle of wine!!

Snowing???
Well they told us 4-8 inches - I told Alan I would believe it when I see it. And don't you know I was right. We got some slush and the kids came home from school an hour early but then that is it. Dadgumit!!

We have an open house for the old house this weekend and I spent most of the day painting and fixing carpet. Tomorrow I need to finish touch up painting and trim and do a good clean job and just hope the right person comes through. Pray hard folks cause we need it.

We have a lot going on, just like most folks this time of year. Kyle is staying with us, two Christmas parties coming up, work, and school just to name a few. Got the backsplash in our kitchen done. You can see pictures on Alan's blog. And we got a new bed too. Lord, it sure is nice. I wake up wondering where I am and what is going on, very nice.

Not much else to say, just wanted to check in and thank you all for your comments on the last post.

Here is my blog. It is the thoughts and feelings of an "aging," homeschooling housewife who serves at a local restaurant. I am an average everyday normal kind of person, although my "normalness" becomes less so in today's society. Read on and enjoy or just realize you may not be the only one.
