Thunder over Louisville
I have lived in Kentucky my entire life and there are some things that I have never done. I have never been to Keeland (horse racing facility in Lexington), I have never been to Kentucky Down Under (theme park in Western Kentucky), I have never been to the Kentucky Derby (Duh!) and I have never been to My Old Kentucky Home (historic home of somebody, I can't remember). I can now say that I have been to the "Kick off" for the Derby festivities, Thunder over Louisville. It was beautiful and I am glad that I went, but I really don't care to ever do it again. There was a reported 500 thousand people down by the river, and that was just on the Kentucky side. We ended up parking and walking 6 blocks down to the river and it is a scarey thing. When the fireworks were over we joined the flow back toward the car and that was even scarier than the weird people down there. We formed a human chain and didn't let go of each other until we could walk without touching other people. With kids, even ones as old as mine, it is a paranoid mom's nightmare.

I think what amazed me most was the amount of teenagers, very young teenagers, all ganged up down there without any kind of adult supervision. I walked through literally hundreds at a time. And then some parents want to know why their kids get into trouble. And the clothes they were wearing? The guys had clothes covering themselves, but the girls were showing as much as they could. YOUNG girls with half their butt cheeks hanging out, shirts so tight you could see everything, and so much belly that you wonder why they even have clothes on. For real, you all, how come parents let their kids dress like that? I just don't get it. That is one battle I will fight, I don't care if my kids "hate" me, they will dress modestly.

I didn't mean to get all negative, really. It was beautiful to see. I had originally planned to go for longer but I decided I really only wanted to see the fireworks. I watched the airshow on TV. :-)

Here is my blog. It is the thoughts and feelings of an "aging," homeschooling housewife who serves at a local restaurant. I am an average everyday normal kind of person, although my "normalness" becomes less so in today's society. Read on and enjoy or just realize you may not be the only one.
