new bible > deal alert

I got me a new Bible! We got a few of them actually, in the Creech household. Conor and McKenzie have never had their own Bible, so I got them one, Liz a new one and Meaghan a new one so they could have a copy of the Catholic Bible too. I haven't gotten a new Bible in a long time. I'm picky when it comes to things like that so I've never quite found one in the version I prefer that I like. Let's just say Catholic Bible design needs a lot of help. Most of them look like they came out of 1977 or something. Anyway, that's it flanking the copy. Oxford University Press did this one up right. It's not too fancy really - not real leather. It's made of "pacific duvelle" - woo woo. Synthetic leather that feels vury niiice. I love the compact size of this Bible too. I call these "little brick Bibles." It's 7.1 x 5.2 x 1.5 inches - figure it out. You see the ribbon marker. Pretty nice. Mine is tan on brown, as you see. the others we got were black on gray.

Here's the inside. Yes, that says "The Book of Wisdom" - one of the deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament. It's a book, if you're not familiar, much like Proverbs. There are 7 of these books (all OT) that have pretty much stood the test of time, recognized and used as Scripture in the Church. They have been disputed from time to time, as have several New Testament books that we all recognize. Anyway, good stuff. Wisdom and Sirach are my favorites among the 7. The type is fairly small, so if your vision isn't great, at least have your reading glasses on-hand to read this baby. Again, I love the size and my vision is close to perfect so I'm good - great carrying with you size.

The version is the New American Bible. It's the "official" Catholic version of the Bible for America. If you go to Mass in a Catholic church, this is what you'll hear read. I've always liked this version. I've read several others and have done research here and there, and have always gone back to the NAB. I know it gets some bad press from some people for one reason or another (not trying to get into that). I'm not concerned with it and so, there you go, I bought another one.

I was excited about my new li'll Bible, so there you go. AND, here's the deal alert: We looked around before we got these and listen, Amazon has this version for an amazingly good price. They must have overstocked or something, but seriously, if you want a nice, compact copy of the New American Bible - for $6.00 !!! - skip over to Amazon at the following links...

- Tan on Brown
- Black on Gray

That's it for today - happy Bible shopping. Pax vobiscum.

"Then, if we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike. Herein we cannot possibly do amiss."

"Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever."
Fulton J. Sheen

"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."
Henri Nouwen
