6 things about me

OK, I discover that I have been tagged from the great arctic plains of Canada. Thanks for the snow last night Jordon. I'll do my best here at 6 non-important things/habits/quirks about myself.
  1. Keeping with Jordon's Star Trek theme on one of his answers - I am a big Star Trek fan. Mostly of The Next Generation and following series. Every weekday at 4, I sit down and watch 2 episodes of Star Trek Voyager back to back. It's one of my little escapes.

  2. I'm kind of a history buff. Not that I read tons of books about historical events. There is this thing called the History Channel - TV is not evil. I have picked up quite of bit of historical knowledge outside of an academic context. It's just extremely interesting to me. I suppose, in a way, it helps me to feel connected to all that - to what happened before I got here. In connection with this, I have been interested in genealogy for years and have done quite a bit of research on my family. I have a Creech genealogy blog too. I don't update it enough. I go in spurts with the research.

  3. I used to want to have blue eyes when I was a kid. I'm not sure why really. It could be connected to my whole fascination with Ireland and my Scottish heritage. I don't really look like a Scot. I don't really look like a Creech. My Mother's swarthy dark features have dominated my genes. I've come to appreciate how I look now and would love to know more about any Native American heritage I have. That's some hard genealogical work there. Of course even in Scotland or Ireland I could pass as the descendant of a shipwrecked Spanish sailor, ha!

  4. I'm not now, nor have I ever been, what you call a sports fan. I don't hate competitive sports, but I've never gotten into watching them on TV, keeping up with players and stats or anything like that. Baseball would probably be my favorite if I had to pick one, and I know enough about it, teams, etc. I like it more now because my son plays Little League ball. I love watching his games. I know this makes me a bit unusual as a man in this culture - oh well, what's new? Of course I am a fisherman, don't mind getting dirty, and am not opposed to killing innocent animals from time to time. There you go.

  5. I'm a little bit of a hypochondriac. Liz tells me this all the time, with a roll of her purty eyes mind you. I keep it under control mostly. I hate going to the doctor, so it's not like I'm always in the ER having them check some pain, but I do have the thoughts. Eeeeek! hhmmmm, what's that? I think my liver is right there - hhmmm, do men have breast cancer? It's goofy really. I'm actually pretty healthy for a fat boy. I do need to lose about 80 pounds, at least, so I can be healthier. One has to decide to do something like that before it actually happens though, and apparently I haven't decided yet.

  6. I can't think of anything else so I'll say something I've said before. I hate talking on the telephone. So, if you call me and expect to have a very engaged conversation, you're probably hoping against hope. I'll try to be nice, but at some point I'll begin dreaming of getting off the freakin' phone. I'd much rather e-mail or IM or, yes, talk in person. Oh, and here are the rules of phone conversation, in case you wondered: if you call, you carry the conversation. If it goes dead, uuuhh, you called, so come up with something to talk about. ha! Anyway, there's that. I'll refrain from tagging anybody today.

"Then, if we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike. Herein we cannot possibly do amiss."
John Wesley

"Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever."
Fulton J. Sheen

"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."
Henri Nouwen
