And now, the Princes of Irish Traditional Music - The Chieftans. They are probably my favorite of all these groups. They're a bit more on the traditional side of the Irish music world - no banjos or guitars in this bunch - flutes and bohdrans and fiddles thanks. Aaahhh, and Paddy's Pipes - a beautiful thing. They've been around since '63 and are likely the most famous of all the Irish traditional music bands. Probably talent and a willingness to travel a lot has something to do with that. The video below is a section of a documentary done about them not long ago. Nothing about that in this video but among there many great albums is one of my favorite Christmas albums of all time, The Bells of Dublin. My son, Conor, can be heard listening to this CD year-round. He's picked up a couple of the songs on his tin whistle. Maybe I can get him to play for us at this year's Creech Christmas party.
