I found out a couple of days ago that legendary Irish folk singer, Tommy Makem, died just this August. I don't think I had heard that auld Tommy was gone. As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of the Irish music - folk, traditional, instrumental and singing varieties alike. Some of the very first music of this sort that I purchased as a teenager was a collection of Irish Revolutionary Songs by The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem (Boulavouge, The Foggy Dew, The Wind That Shakes The Barley - classic stuff). It didn't take long before I could sing every word with the boys. Anyway, I was sad to hear of Tommy's lost battle with lung cancer this year. Here's a little youtube song of himself and the Clancys - he's the one on the far left - his verse is about the preacher. Continued Peace and rest to the Bard of Armagh. Thanks for the music Tommy.
