family reunion > I'm still here

Sorry for the long pause in blogging. My brain is on pause I guess, at least as to what to say in this venue for the moment. I'll get back crankin' soon, I promise.

This weekend was pretty full. We went to our annual family reunion in Harlan, Kentucky on Saturday. It takes place at Kingdom Come State Park in Cumberland (that's in Harlan County). It's a very pretty little park on top of a mountain there with a small lake and shelters, etc. Saturday was a nice weather day too, not too hot at all. So, no sweatin' up on the mountain. Lots of food, kids playing with their distant cousins, and singing of course.

Meaghan, Liz and I went down to the little lake and they watched me fish for a little while. You know I brought my fly rod right? Of course I did. Caught a couple of bluegill and tried to hook some bass, no go, and one of the giant 4' long grass carp, nothing, but it was fun. I usually only make it to Harlan once a year now, for this reunion, so it's pretty much a good experience. If not only to see the mountains again. They are a beautiful sight, you see there.

There you see the Matriarchs of the family. Great Aunt Beulah (left) and Rhema (right). This whole thing is about the descendants of my Great Grandfather, Joseph Creech. These two women are his last surviving children. They were sisters to my Grandfather, Delmer. It's always interesting for me to see the old photos and hear them talk about the family.

I also dropped by my old home church, Holy Trinity, in Harlan on our way out. McKenzie had never seen it before so I took her around inside, showed her where Daddy was baptized, etc. I took a couple more pictures in there, pretty cool. Good day but all that driving (Harlan is 3+ hours from Lexington) wore me out. And I'm always glad to be home anytime I go anywhere, that's just me. That's it for now. Peace.

"Then, if we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike. Herein we cannot possibly do amiss."

"Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever."
Fulton J. Sheen

"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."
Henri Nouwen
