and so I did

And so, as I said, I did. I made it happen. I got up at 5:40am this morning, still dark and foggy outside. Nice and cool too, only 53 degrees. The night before I had gotten my stuff ready. That's what fishermen do. They tinker around with their "stuff" the night before and get all excited - sometimes such that they cannot sleep properly. It's some kind of fishing adrenaline thing. I slept OK, but probably not long enough.

So, I drove to the Red River Gorge, to Indian Creek. It's about an hour drive, which isn't bad at all. It's been a while since I got up and started a fishing trip in the dark. I guess I got to my destination - the literal "end of the road" - at about 8am. It was a great morning. Cool, the fog added an ambiance, sunny later. It was pretty up there, you see that there.

You also see the fruit of my labor, an approx. 13" Brown Trout on a dry fly - #12 black caddis fly (could pass as a cricket). Beautiful fish. After that it was only a few creek chubs, but it was well worth it. I knew there were Browns up there but I've never caught one there. I sort of had that as a goal today. Nice little gift that fish.

I was only there for about 3 and a half hours but it was definitely a good trip. I saw two deer too, on my way in there this morning, crossing the road. That's always nice. I wish I could've seen the woodpecker I heard knocking against a tree a good part of the morning. It had to be huge. I know the Ivory Bill has been discovered again in the swamps of Arkansas - makes me wonder where else they might be. OK, that's it. I just wanted to share that.

"Then, if we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike. Herein we cannot possibly do amiss."

"Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever."
Fulton J. Sheen

"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."
Henri Nouwen
