memories from childhood > 2
For some reason I started thinking of names tonight, names of friends I had as a child. I think it's related to something that happened today. My youngest daughter, McKenzie, visited some of her friends for a while in our old neighborhood. When I went to pick her up she was crying because she missed living there and wanted to move back. Ahh, the angst of childhood. Anyway, I started having all these names run through my mind and then I tried to add to them all I could remember.
So, I'm going to list them. It would be pretty cool if somehow any of you guys (guys is a unisex term pretty much by the way) were out there and saw this. It would be good to hear from some of you after all these years.
I lived in a neighborhood, like many of you grew up in. I know it was in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky but everyone from Harlan didn't live "up a holler" on the side of a mountain. I lived in the section of Harlan which was near the town, in a river valley and it was a neighborhood with houses, apartments, two schools, a hospital, stores, etc. There were a lot of kids and we all found one another. One odd thing in my "hood" was that it was a hospital neighborhood and that hospital had a residency program. That's significant because many of the doctors who lived there at the time were from foreign countries. So, most of my early childhood friendships were with kids from Korea, Pakistan, the Philipines, etc. Also my Mother was a nurse at the hospital so they all knew her and we all had the hospital in common.
One of the schools down the street was a high school - James A. Cawood High - where my Dad was an English teacher, so I also knew kids who were children of other teachers at the school. Probably my oldest friend is one of these guys. We're still in contact now from time to time. And of course my schools, Holy Trinity, Harlan Elementary, Hall Elementary, and Cawood, that I mentioned earlier. This is getting long. Oh well. On with the list. I'm going to try and list these in chronological order, beginning probably in 1969 - on through the 80's.

Oh my gosh, I'm sure I forgot a lot of people but that's hard. That's it for now. Maybe nobody's interested in this at all except me, but hey, you know, that's why they call it... my blog.
