13 days and counting. I leave for Ireland on the 31st of this month and stay till the 8th of September. I think I'm actually starting to get excited. I was reviewing where I'll be staying last night again, what's there, etc. I thought it might be cool to share a little here so you can see where I'll be.

My first stay will be in County Clare, near Ennis. That's Ennis town on the left there. The middle photo is the actual B&B I'll be staying in, Lakeside Lodge, which sits on Killone Lake. An old ruined 12th century convent, Killone Abbey, is on the other side of the lake there. And those are the Cliffs of Moher on the right which are pretty close, along with the Burren and LOTS of Irish traditional music. This area is the hub for traditional music in Ireland and I will be taking advantage of that. Check out this site, Custy's Music Shop - lots of local music. I'll be dropping in on the folks there.

Next stop, Oughterard, County Galway. That's the town there on the left. I'll be staying at an angling lodge B&B - yes Angling! Camillaun Lodge is a fishing lodge locating on the shores of Ireland's largest lake, Lough Corrib, well known for it's Brown Trout and freshwater Salmon fishing. That's it there in the center. On the right is some amazing shot from somewhere in Connemara, one of the most famously scenic areas in the country. It's an area, not a town, sort of like a "national park" type area but not really. I'll be gettin' some fishing guide lad to take me out to the small island of Inchagoil too, where St. Patrick's nephew is allegedly buried. And yes, fishing WILL be done on the lough.

My third 2 night stay will be on the edge of the town of Killarney (on the left). Yeah, yeah, Christmas in Killarney, Bing Crosby, yada yada. It's in the county of Kerry - no Kerryman jokes if you please. I know some already and I'll try my best not to tell them there so I don't get meself beaten with a shillelagh. My B&B there is Ross Castle Lodge (middle) there in Killarney. It sits on the edge of woods that are a part of a national park. It's a great base for touring the well known Ring of Kerry which goes through and by some amazing coastal and inland scenery in Southwest Ireland. You know, old high crosses, old Oratories and ruined monasteries everywhere. Isn't' that grand now? I may also hit West Cork, boey, and see the Michael Collins memorial. We'll see.

The last night I'm headed back closer to Shannon airport. The guestmaster at Glenstal Abbey e-mailed and said I could stay with them but it's an hour and a half from the airport and I have an early flight out. So I'll probably visit the boys of Glenstal for part of the last day and then find lodging in Bunratty for the night. Enough of that. Looking forward to it.
