i have a ticket I did it. Yes I did. I bought me a ticket to the Emerald Isle! Last night I finally clicked "purchase ticket" and it's real. I leave on August 31st, arrive at Shannon on Sept. 1st and stay till the 8th. You know, I won't be staying IN the Shannon Airport the whole time, there will be moving around, just to be clear.
I have two nights booked in a Bed & Breakfast near Ennis in Co. Clare. Looking forward to that. Of course there just happens to be some 12th century ruins of an old monastic convent across a small lake from this place - WHAAT!? Yeah, just over there waitin' for me to hike over and roam around it's broken down walls. I have two more nights booked in a B&B on Lough Corrib in Galway - yes, there are Brown Trout and Salmon in that lake and yes, I will fish for them while I'm there for a little bit. I'll also try to visit the little island on Corrib where St. Patrick's nephew is supposedly buried. And, and and.
Near there as well is a little town called Cong where my favorite movie was filmed, The Quiet Man. I shall indeed lay feet on those streets. Probably won't stay there. It's not far from Oughterard where I'm staying in Galway. Sure it's just around the hill from Maam Cross over in Mayo, you know that.
I haven't booked any more places yet. I'd like to stay in Kerry somewhere too and maybe try for a night at Glenstal Abbey with the monks. We shall see. I don't think I'll have time to hit Dublin (this time) so I'll probably stay in the West. I would like to head down to Cork though and see where Michael Collins fell - maybe hit Tipperary on the way back up one day. See, this is what happens when you love a country all your life and know way too much about it before you even go there. Too much I'd want to see and do. I have to calm meself and have a pint.
OK, that's enough of that. Of course if anyone's going to be in the West of Ireland around that time, let me know and I'll meet you in a pub somewhere.
