Here's a view of my desk at work. You see my keyboard, my paper under there to scribble on, make notes, etc. and my pile of stuff, uh, I mean, "filing system." I'm sure you're very interested in that little window into my world - or not. There it is one way or another. The last couple of days we've had some pretty strong thunderstorms moving through Kentucky. Many times these deals are accompanied by tornadoes - not large ones. I don't think any touched down last night. It was lookin' pretty mean out there though, I took this picture out the back door in our neighborhood as the mess was rolling in. Ominous - and cool as crap! Lots of very cool lightening that we could watch through our big living room windows. I know Glenn will appreciate this, storm-chaser that he is. Yeah, I just checked his blog - pretty funny - he was out in all that last night, taking way more pictures than me, with diagramming - ha!I've never been afraid of thunderstorms. My Dad and I used to sit on our porch when I was a kid and watch them. I love the smell of rain coming in. I love to watch lightening and there was some doozy lightening last night. Now, I didn't say I didn't respect a thunderstorm, I'm just not afraid of them. Of course, there have been days, standing in a stream, the wind starts blowing a little harder than normal, starts getting dark too early, and you hear it, booooommm. Oh yeah, and the fish go NUTS! So, yes, I've stood there, waving my graphite lightening rod around, catching fish after fish as they go through a pre-storm feeding spree. Barometric pressure triggers it I think - it's built in - they know the stream is getting ready to get high and muddy so they eat while they can. Anyway, fishing on the front end of a thunderstorm can be pretty exciting. No fishing tonight, but we may have some more storming - we'll see. Tomorrow I'll walk by this gate at the Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani. I'm driving down for a half-day retreat. I need to be quiet, pray, meditate. Yeah, I need to take some pictures too, so I'll do that. I haven't been there in a little while so it's about time. Also, and this highly contributed to my timing on this, I'll be meeting blog-friend Dan Phillips for lunch there as he will be helping with a retreat there for some International Thomas Merton Society folks. Very cool. Dan and I have corresponded for a few years, connected via Merton, etc. It'll be cool to meet face to face finally. Looking forward to that.technorati tags > thunderstorms, weather, fishing, tornadoes, retreat, abbey of gethsemani, thomas merton, dan phillips, glenn johnson ::: ::: permalink ::: e-mail me :::
