entertaining baptists
Interesting afternoon today. Last week or so ago I got an e-mail from a professor at Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. Apparently he was teaching an intensive class there on the emerging church movement. That's pretty wild, I thought. We had good e-mail exchange and talked on the phone.

Today he brought his class to visit us, to talk about my thoughts on the "movement" and church, what we were doing as Vine & Branches, etc. They came at noon, we fed 12 of them and ourselves lunch here at the house and we sat down in the living room to have a chat. Well, mostly I yapped as they asked me questions. They introduced themselves as well. I actually wish we could have had more time so I could have asked them a few questions. Maybe we'll do it again sometime.

It was a good time. Good to meet those guys and hang out. Seems like we had a productive talk about what was going on. At least I hope anything I said made sense and answered their questions. I'm a talker and tend to ramble sometimes. I feel like I talked too much but oh well. Technology sucked today as I tried to record the session from my laptop and got shut down after like 10 minutes as I forgot to register my paid-for copy of Audio Hijack Pro on this new computer. Crap! Oh well, you know in the early church they couldn't record their stuff either so I guess we'll all live. So, I write you this epistle to tell you what happened.

I appreciated how they asked their questions and seemed very open to hear what I was saying about various things. Thanks to J.D. Payne, their professor and to all the guys present. I'm sure there were things that some of them didn't quite agree with or may never do, but everything was handled very well. Nobody was hurt. God is good, all the time. :^)

Despite what some people may think of me, I really don't mind having conversations like this with people. If they're like this, I like it. I like hosting people in our home. I told Liz and Kyle the only thing that was weird for me was the feeling of being left hanging - not having any real feedback. It wasn't bad, just odd for me. I'm sure we'll communicate again. I'd love to hear what they all thought of what was said and their whole experience in taking a class about the subject.

Now, we're sitting around in the living room taking naps, by the fire, listening to Irish music and of course, blogging. Now if it would just snow... Pax vobiscum.
