extended family

Good time with extended family last night. That's what these guys are to me. I have my family family, then I have my community family, then I have this extended spiritual family. I feel very fortunate. Probably not the right word. "Blessed" always sounds so cheesy to me. Anyway, I'm just glad it is like it is. There are always places for all these things to grow and develop but it's good.

We waded through the crowd at The Dubliner to the table that Kevin and Brandon had been keeping for us for a while. The cast of characters: Kevin, Chris, Glenn, Chad, Aaron, and the newest edition to this neck of the woods, Brandon. It was good to see and hang with him again. Of course, the time was good. And I got my present from the lads - yes, I don't have a picture up here but it's a genuine Pope John Paul II action figure - niiice. Now, I respect the Pope, he seems an amazing man, but this was just funny. Then we went to Aaron's place for a bit and then onto a coffee house for some more treasonous conversation - good, revolutionary stuff.

The fact that these relationships exist, and exist the way they do, without being officialized, is really amazing. We talked about that last night - about how it is and how it happened and is happening, about the temptations we've had to go in other directions, etc. We have what we need - relationships and love. When we need to "do something" we do it. We are committed not to push it beyond that, into something artificial and unnecessary. Will what we're doing collectively remain relatively obscure and small? Yes. Good. No "miracle grow" please. We have to eat what's growing here. Well, you get the idea. I'll not go on and on here. Peace and Grace to you.

"Then, if we cannot as yet think alike in all things, at least we may love alike. Herein we cannot possibly do amiss."
John Wesley

"Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever."
Fulton J. Sheen

"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."
Henri Nouwen
