easter night
The Vine & Branches crew celebrated Easter tonight. We had an "all-in-one" Holy Week - Easter liturgy. Very good time I think. We incorporated liturgical elements from different parts of Holy Week and Easter to remind us who we are, Who He Is, and what He has done for us. I read the selection from Merton that I quoted here in my last post, explaining the liturgy we were taking part in. We read a scripture for tonight's evening prayer, lit the Paschal fire in the fireplace, the Paschal candle from that fire, our own candles from that, and every other candle in the room from those. These symbols can be an extremely rich way for us to experience the story. The Light of Christ was everywhere! We did a Stations of the Cross meditation in which each of us, in turn, stood and read a station meditation, until we went through all 14. We had some music. We entered into the great Sacrament of Thanksgiving - Eucharist - then sat in sat in spontaneous silence for a while - yes, even with the kids in the room. Very encouraging time. We talked for a while and then left to take the Light into our world. In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
